The good news is, more of us are living longer. The bad news is, this means a
higher proportion of us will eventually need some form of long term care ("LTC"). Actually,
a disabling injury or disease can lead to long term care at any age; but of course,
the odds of needing long term care increase as you get older.

60% of us who reach age 65 will
need LTC at some time in our lives1. One in four of us age 85 or older currently lives
in a nursing home. Those suffering from Alzheimer's disease may need nursing home
care for a number of years.

This graph shows that, while most people receiving long term care
are over 65, almost half are under 65. The longer you live, the more likely it is that
you’ll need long term care.
