The Home Page is your gateway to every part of the website. It is designed to be simple and easy to use.

 


If you're new to the site, click on the links under Learn.

These pages will answer some basic questions about long term care, introduce you to the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program ('The Federal Program'), and let you take a quiz to test your knowledge.

 

 

Click on APPLY ONLINE under Apply Now to apply for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program using the online application process. If you can't apply electronically, you can download and print a paper application form instead. This link is available throughout the site.

 


Under Resources you'll find links to useful tools and documents. This menu is available throughout the site.

 

The four green buttons at the top of the home page connect you to the main content pages of the site, where you'll find a wealth of information on the basics of long term care ('LTC'), LTC insurance features and options, and the Federal Program. Click on PLANNING TOOLS to use powerful calculators that bring the financial logic of LTC insurance into sharp focus.

 


On the left side of the content pages, you'll find the subject matter organized into topics and subtopics. Click on any of these links to go directly to that section.

 

The three brown buttons at the top of the home page let you order an information kit online or contact us directly; you can also learn more about Long Term Care Partners, the administrator for the insurance.

 

The links at the very top of the home page take you to helpful reference areas of the site.

 

All of the home page links are repeated at the bottom of the page, as a convenience if you have scrolled down, and to help visitors with disabilities.

Sitemap. This diagram shows you the site at a glance, and how it is organized by topics and subtopics. These links give you very quick access to very specific information.

 

Quick Links. Click on these links for shortcuts to popular resources.

 

Search. Click in the search window at the top of the page, type in a keyword or keywords, and click on GO. Our search engine will display the results organized by topic, with links for immediate access to those pages.

 

Use the Planning Tools
 
The PLANNING TOOLS calculators can help you fit LTC insurance into your overall financial picture.

 

If you're new to the Tools section, take the Tour, a step-by-step guide to how the planning tools work together.

 

Since the cost of long term care varies by region, use the first tool to calculate the cost of care in your area. This result - and other calculator results - are held in memory, and carried forward from tool to tool, until you exit the PLANNING TOOLS section.

Calculate the cost of funding long term care yourself, and the cost of paying for LTC insurance premiums. The summary screen displays the results of all these calculations, so you can easily compare them.

 

To print the summary, click on the Print Summary button. This displays a printable version of the screen.

 

Then use the File, Print... pulldown menu, or click on your browser's print icon , to print the screen.

 

How to Apply
 

To apply for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program, simply click on APPLY ONLINE. This link is available throughout the site, and will take you to an electronic application form which is state-of-the-art and very easy to use. This electronic application is secure, and your information is only available to those processing the application. If you have any questions or encounter any problems during the process, simply call 1-800-LTC-FEDS (1-800-582-3337) (TTY: 1-800-843-3557).

Please note, if you plan to apply for more than one person within your household during an online session, you must close out of your browser after you have completed the process the first time. This will clear all of the information from your first application.

Technical Questions

1.  Why Can't I Access the Premium Calculator and/or Other Secure Pages (Contact Us or Online Application)?

The most common reason for problems accessing these pages is the security setting in the web browser.  Please make the following changes in your browser, close the browser and restart it.

Internet Explorer

First:

  1. Click the Tools menu in your browser.
  2. Select Internet Options from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Advanced tab at the top right of the pop-up window.
  4. Scroll down near the bottom. Under Security, confirm that SSL 3.0 is checked.

Second:

  1. Click the Tools menu in your browser.
  2. Select Internet Options from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Security tab at the top left of the pop-up window.
  4. Click on the globe image with the text underneath that says "Internet". Make sure the security setting is set to medium or below.


If any changes were made, close the browser and open it again. 

Netscape

First:

  1. Click the Edit menu in your browser.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Privacy and Security.
  4. Select SSL. Make sure that SSL 3.0 is checked.

Second:

  1. Click the Edit menu in your browser.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Select Cache. Make sure that the “Compare the Page in the Cache to the page on the network” is set to “Never”.

 

2. Why am I Having Problems Downloading Forms?

First, instead of clicking on the download link, try right-clicking on the link and choosing Save As. Then, save the file to a location on your computer.  Once the file has been saved, open it from the location where it was saved.

 

3. Why is the Text Missing When I Print .PDF Forms?

When printing the form, make sure that “Print as Image” or “Print Text as Graphics” is checked in the printer configuration dialog box that appears when you click print.

 

4. How Can I Fix My Scroll Boxes that Extend Beyond the Bottom of the Screen?

The minimum screen resolution for the website is 800 x 600.  To change this:

  • Right click on the desktop
  • Choosing Settings
  • Adjust the screen area bar.  (Alternatively, you can click on the part of the list that is visible, and then use the cursor keys to get down to the item you wish to choose.)
