Does Long Term Care Insurance Only Cover Care in a Nursing Home?

No. While some plans only pay for care in a nursing home or assisted living facility, other plans also cover long term care you receive in your own home or other settings.

Most people receive long term care in settings outside of a nursing home. The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) provides comprehensive coverage, regardless of whether you receive care at home, in an assisted living facility, in a nursing home, or in an inpatient hospice care environment.

Unlike some other plans, the FLTCIP also covers approved care provided at home by informal caregivers such as friends, family members and other non-licensed caregivers.
